Talk Title:
Woody Plant Encroachment and Forages

About this Webinar
Woody plant encroachment is becoming an increasingly significant range management issue across western Canada. In this webinar, Andrew Williams will examine the effects of woody plant encroachment on forage quality and production within Saskatchewan’s Aspen Parkland ecoregion.

Drawing on research from a representative Aspen Parkland pasture, Andrew will discuss how woody plant cover has changed over the past 40 years using remote sensing technology. Participants will learn how increasing tree and shrub cover affects forage production and quality, along with the implications for long-term pasture management.

The presentation will also explore the use of high-resolution satellite imagery to estimate changes in woody vegetation over time and highlight how these tools can support future rangeland management and conservation efforts.

About the Speaker
Andrew Williams was raised in Saskatoon and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Bioresource from the University of Saskatchewan. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science under the supervision of Dr. Eric G. Lamb, where his research focuses on remote sensing and fire intensity. His work combines emerging technologies with practical applications for rangeland management and conservation.
