The Canadian Forage and Grassland Association’s (CFGA) online courses give producers, mentors and advisors practical, science based training to strengthen grazing and forage management across Canada. Rooted in national research and enriched with real world experience from graziers and forage specialists, these flexible learning options guide participants through core principles that support productive, resilient and environmentally responsible operations.

CFGA courses cover foundational and advanced topics from forage growth and grazing readiness to stocking density, water systems, fencing, minerals and day‑to‑day management decisions. Each course includes downloadable tools, templates and region‑specific guidance to help participants design and implement systems that enhance productivity, soil health, biodiversity and long‑term resilience.

The CFGA offers online courses through two programs: Advanced Grazing Systems (AGS) and Advanced Forage Systems (AFS). The courses in these programs are designed to support producers across varied production systems and regional needs.

Advanced Grazing Systems (AGS)

AGS is an online program for farm producers and grazing mentors, including agronomic professionals, to learn the basic techniques of rotational grazing and improve their grazing systems. The program has two streams, including one for producers and one for grazing mentors and the following subcourses that build on the AGS curriculum:

  • Dairy - teaches dairy producers advanced rotational grazing techniques and pasture management.
  • Small Ruminants – teaches sheep and goat producers and agronomists rotational grazing techniques and pasture management.
  • Brown Soil Zone (coming soon) – teaches producers and grazing mentors, including agronomic professionals, grazing management specifically crafted to address the unique nature of the brown soil region.
Advanced Forage Systems (AFS) – (coming soon)

AFS is an online program designed to teach producers and agronomists the practical steps needed to improve the quality of Canadian forage for domestic and international markets.
