In recognition of the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP) 2026, Public and Stakeholder Engagement, a division of the Canadian Cattle Association, together with the B.C. Cattlemen’s Association, is hosting the Guardians of the Grasslands Tour at Indian Gardens Ranch near Savona, British Columbia.
Declared by the United Nations General Assembly, the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists highlights the economic, environmental and social importance of rangelands, along with the vital role pastoralists and ranchers play as stewards of these landscapes.
This tour offers an opportunity to connect with producers and partners while exploring the importance of grassland stewardship in British Columbia. Participants will visit Indian Gardens Ranch, owned and operated by cousins David and Bob Haywood-Farmer and their families, and learn more about the ranch’s approach to managing and caring for these important landscapes.
Attendees can expect a day focused on grassland conservation, stewardship and the role working ranches play in maintaining healthy rangeland ecosystems. The event also highlights the partnerships and shared efforts that support Canada’s grasslands and recognize the people who care for them.
Thank you to the sponsors supporting this event, including the Canadian Forage and Grassland Association and Ducks Unlimited Canada.
