About the Location
Simpson senc Farm is a business located in Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover in central Quebec that produces exotic cattle. The soil type is primarily sandy loam. No subsurface drainage is present. Some grasslands are over 30 years old and stronger than ever.
About the Farm
The farm timidly made its debut in 2007. It travelled an atypical route, making its way into the cattle industry. Several trials and learnings have led us to the breeding of exotic Texas Longhorn and Corriente cattle. The company derives its income mainly from the production of animals for rodeo performances.
Learning about Rotational Grazing
The main site has about 40 acres of pasture. Extensively used in the early 2000s. It was in 2015 that the click was made and she quickly turned to intensive grazing management to increase the productivity of the fields and thus ensure its sustainability. We quickly realized that it was possible to improve yields without using the traditional plow and seeder route.
The Rotational Grazing Objective
This project aims to compare two different systems: temporary fencing on 20 acres and permanent fencing on 20 acres.
Agronomic Details
Seeding took place throughout the summer before the cows started grazing. Installation of the fencing and water supply systems were completed on May 15, 2023.
