The CFGA is proud to support and offer training and mentorship tools nationwide to help producers grow their skills and support their adoption of beneficial management practices that store carbon and reduce greenhouse gases.

In addition to access to free training, benefits of becoming a mentor with the CFGA include: the potential to generate income by helping producers develop grazing plans, access to a national network of grazing mentors and opportunities for continuing education.

Become a mentor
The next mentor training takes place virtually during the afternoons of Oct. 10 and 24. This free training begins with an overview of mentorship to support producers starting in rotational grazing including the role of the mentor, mentorship skills and using grazing plans and other tools to assist producers. The second day takes a deeper look at cell design and development of mentor-producer relations including doing some mock grazing plan reviews.

The training is delivered by CFGA program leads and subject experts, such as learning development and extension experts. Completion of certain sections of the CFGA’s Advanced Grazing Systems (AGS) course is a prerequisite for the mentorship training and active participation is required.

Registration closes Sept. 30. Contact [email protected] for more information or to register.

Fall mentor meeting series
As part of the Grazing Mentor Program, the CFGA is also hosting a four-part series called Extending Your Reach as a Mentor. Each month, guest speakers will discuss various approaches for expanding the scope and reach of mentoring services.

September’s topic was How to Start a Grazing Club and explored concrete steps that mentors can take to form a grazing club, including strategies for finding participants, ideas for structuring meetings and funding options.

Upcoming sessions are:
Oct. 7 – Branching Out: Alternative Grazing
Nov. 4 – Promoting Yourself as a Mentor
Dec. 2 – How to Plan a Field Day – Open to the public

Access to continuing education opportunities is one of the benefits of becoming a mentor with the CFGA so this is a closed meeting for CFGA grazing mentors only. For those interested in becoming a mentor, the CFGA is opening its December meeting to the public for prospective mentors. Register HERE
