Back To All

The Canadian Forage and Grassland Association (CFGA) is part of a national grassland coalition established in June 2024 committed to learning about, conserving, protecting and advocating for natural grasslands. Led by the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF), the Canadian Grassland Coalition (CGC) is dedicated to improving Canadians’ awareness of the importance and vulnerability of Canada’s natural grasslands.

Join the Canadian Wildlife Federation and members of the Canadian Grassland Coalition for a national webinar series about Canada’s grasslands. Learn why these landscapes matter, the species that depend on them, and the conservation actions underway to protect them.

Grasslands are among the most endangered and least understood ecosystems in Canada — yet they support an extraordinary diversity of wildlife, sustain working agricultural landscapes and provide critical ecological benefits for communities.

Join the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) and the Grasslands Conservation Council of British Columbia (GCC) on March 25 at 12 p.m. MT for a conversation about the importance of grasslands. Learn why these landscapes matter, the species that depend on them, and the conservation actions underway to protect them for future generations.

This engaging session will highlight fascinating grassland species alongside the real conservation work happening on the ground. Whether you are a landowner, conservation supporter, student or simply curious about Canada’s natural landscapes, this webinar will leave you with a deeper appreciation for grasslands — and the role we all play in sustaining them.

Speakers:

Jeremy Hogan is the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s (NCC) Director of Prairie Grassland Conservation. In this role, Jeremy leads NCC’s Prairie Grasslands Action Plan, which seeks to conserve more than 500,000 hectares of Canada’s highly endangered Prairie ecosystems by 2030. Prior to joining NCC, Jeremy spent 10 years at the University of Calgary conducting ecology research in Northwest Costa Rica. Observing firsthand the impact of private, land-based conservation action he is thrilled to have an opportunity to apply his enthusiasm and expertise in his own backyard, and to help ensure that these amazing ecosystems remain intact and thriving for his young family—and future generations—to cherish in the future.

The Grasslands Conservation Council of BC (GCC) is a registered charity dedicated to protecting British Columbia’s rare and irreplaceable grassland ecosystems. Founded in 1999, we work across BC to conserve the mere 1% of provincial land base that supports an astounding 30% of the province’s species at-risk.

Our work brings together ranchers, scientists, Indigenous communities, land managers, and conservation advocates to address urgent threats like urban sprawl, invasive species, and unmanaged recreation. Through education, outreach, and collaboration, we foster understanding and appreciation for grasslands’ ecological, social, economic, and cultural importance.

I’m Heidi Wismath, the Education and Outreach Coordinator at GCC. My role focuses on connecting people with our rare and highly at-risk grasslands through educational resources and developing community partnerships. I’m happiest when I get to walk alongside people—especially the young and young-at-heart—as they (re)discover their unique place in our ecological story and empower them to become active participants in caring for the land who cares for us!
